The gameplay loop
Rooster progresses through 12 levels, each built around a distinct puzzle or minigame that must be completed on the journey back to the Lunar New Year’s Eve party in Rooster’s own timeline.
Quest rewards can become tools for later objectives. Rat gives Rooster Sticky Tree Sap, which is later used to repair the paper that Ox tears into pieces.
To repair that paper, pick up the brush, dip it into the Sticky Tree Sap, and click each piece after placing it.
Choices can carry a serious consequence: unwise decisions risk leaving Rooster stuck in the past.
Glue Ox’s paper pieces as you place them because his farts can blow unglued pieces to the edge of the screen.
In the marketplace, use Snake’s shapeshifting ability when the baby approaches danger, choosing one of three shapes to protect Snake and the baby.
Your first route forward
- After the opening cutscene, inspect the unfamiliar area by clicking the question-mark Scrolls mounted on the wall.
- Read enough wall Scrolls to make a new Scroll fall onto Rooster’s head, then click the newly arrived Scroll.
- Read the new Scroll to learn about Rooster’s predicament, then close it when you are finished.
- After the dialogue event introduces the couple and their baby, move to the center of the area and click Rat near them.
- Continue by completing each level’s unique puzzle or minigame until you have cleared the full 12-level journey.
